Tasting Notes

Nose

Bold juniper with fragrant citrus, fresh peppery notes — coriander with vanilla-like notes singing over the pepper prickle, pine, lavender and lemon zest

Palate

Juniper crescendos early with buttery richness and thick mouthfeel — tangy citrus on the close, generous coriander, floral lavender, vanilla and oily leathery notes

Finish

Spicy and peppery with mellow warmth — long, lingering yet smooth, the 57% remarkably well integrated

First Impressions

Hernö Navy Strength uses exactly the same distillate as their award-winning Dry Gin — the same seven botanicals, the same distillation — simply diluted to 57% instead of 40.5%. The higher proof amplifies everything, particularly the floral and citrus notes that define Hernö's character.

Tasting

The nose delivers bold juniper with fragrant citrus and fresh peppery notes. Coriander with vanilla-like notes sings over the pepper prickle, with pine, lavender and lemon zest emerging with water. On the palate, juniper crescendos early with buttery richness and thick mouthfeel, followed by tangy citrus. Generous coriander, floral lavender, vanilla and oily leathery notes develop. The finish is spicy and peppery with mellow warmth — long, lingering, yet remarkably smooth.

The Bottom Line

Hernö Navy Strength earns a 9 for being perhaps the most contemporary-feeling navy strength available — it puts floral and fruity notes so far forward that it challenges what navy strength gin can be. The buttery richness and thick mouthfeel at 57% are exceptional. Makes a remarkable Negroni where the florals stand up to the Campari.
