Tasting Notes

Nose

Delightfully loud resinous piney juniper — richer and fuller than standard Start Point with amplified citrus and spice-laden creaminess

Palate

Intensely flavoured with much more citrus and sweet spice than the standard — peppery cubeb alongside creamy sweet orange and ruby red grapefruit

Finish

Long with green cardamom lengthening the citrus — the 50% carrying warmth and extra body

First Impressions

Salcombe Start Point Offshore Strength was developed in partnership with the Royal Ocean Racing Club — the ultimate sundowner for sailors. The same Macedonian juniper, hand-peeled citrus and Dartmoor water as standard Start Point, but distilled to 50% ABV for a richer, fuller expression that stands up to wind, spray and dilution.

Tasting

The nose is delightfully loud with resinous piney juniper — richer and fuller than the standard Start Point with amplified citrus and spice-laden creaminess. On the palate, intensely flavoured with much more citrus and sweet spice, with peppery cubeb alongside creamy sweet orange and ruby red grapefruit. The finish is long with green cardamom lengthening the citrus, the 50% carrying warmth and extra body.

The Bottom Line

Offshore Strength earns an 8 for amplifying everything good about Start Point without losing its balance. The 50% is not quite navy strength but gives noticeably more body and mixing power. Developed for sailors but perfect for anyone who wants a bolder G&T — serve with a slice of red grapefruit as the distillery recommends.
