Tasting Notes

Nose

Freshly cut summer hay with subtle vanilla — lemongrass and cinnamon with a big hit of piney juniper

Palate

Surprisingly sweet initial burst — bison grass vanilla and hay-like character balanced by zesty lemon-lime citrus, juniper asserting gradually with warming peppery spice

Finish

Warming foundation with peppery juniper lingering — summer herbs and hay-like sweetness fading gently

First Impressions

Three Wrens Bison Grass Gin is the world's only gin infused with Hierochloe Odorata — magical sweet grass also known as bison grass. From the Cheshire distillery that grows many of its own botanicals, this won UK's Best Flavoured Gin 2021 at the Great British Food Awards and a Double Gold Medal.

Tasting

The nose evokes freshly cut summer hay with subtle vanilla, lemongrass and cinnamon alongside piney juniper. On the palate, a surprisingly sweet initial burst — bison grass vanilla and hay character balanced by zesty lemon-lime, juniper asserting gradually with peppery spice. The finish is warming with summer herbs fading gently.

The Bottom Line

Three Wrens Bison Grass earns an 8 for a genuinely unique gin — nobody else uses bison grass. The vanilla and hay character is unlike any other botanical, and the UK's Best Flavoured Gin award confirms the quality. Beautifully balanced, herbaceous, and a conversation-starter.
