Tasting Notes

Nose

Rich and complex for a vodka, with toasted bread, fresh cream, and subtle floral notes. The copper still influence is evident in the rounded warmth.

Palate

Silky and full-bodied at 42.3%, with a creamy wheat sweetness, gentle spice, and a clean, mineral quality. The vintage copper still from 1929 imparts a warmth and richness that column stills cannot replicate.

Finish

Long and satisfying with lingering cream, gentle warmth, and a clean mineral close.

Absolut Elyx represents the pinnacle of what Sweden's most famous vodka brand can achieve when price is no object and craft is the priority. Distilled in small batches using a vintage copper rectification still from 1929 — the last of its kind — and wheat sourced exclusively from the nearby Råbelöf estate, this is Absolut stripped of its mass-market trappings and presented as a genuine luxury spirit.

The vintage copper still is crucial to Elyx's character. Where modern stainless steel column stills produce clean but sometimes austere spirits, the copper catalyses chemical reactions during distillation that remove sulphur compounds while adding a rounded warmth and richness. The result is immediately apparent on the nose — toasted bread, fresh cream, and subtle floral notes that are absent from standard Absolut.

At 42.3% ABV — a deliberate and unusual choice — Elyx has more presence on the palate than typical 40% vodka. The extra strength carries a creamy wheat sweetness, gentle spice, and a clean mineral quality. The mouthfeel is silky and full-bodied, rewarding slow sipping rather than quick consumption.

Absolut recommend Elyx as the foundation for a proper Martini or a simple serve with soda and a twist, and both suggestions are sound. The spirit has enough character to hold its own in a Martini while remaining clean enough not to overwhelm delicate cocktails.

At £38.75, Elyx competes with the likes of Grey Goose and Belvedere, and it more than holds its own. A genuinely premium vodka that earns its price tag through quality rather than marketing alone.
