Tasting Notes

Nose

Remarkably complex for a vodka, with toasted bread, subtle spice from the rye, and a nutty richness from the spelt. Fresh and inviting.

Konik's Tail takes its name from the wild Konik ponies that roam Poland's ancient Białowieża Forest, and there is something appropriately untamed about this vodka. Launched in 2010, it is crafted from three distinct grains — spelt, rye, and early winter wheat — each distilled separately before being blended. The three intertwined tails on the bottle represent these three grains, and it is a neat touch.

The nose immediately signals that this is no ordinary vodka. Where most spirits in the category aim for neutrality, Konik's Tail positively revels in its grain character. Toasted bread, peppery rye spice, and a nutty richness from the spelt create an aroma that genuinely rewards exploration.

On the palate, the triple-grain approach pays enormous dividends. The spelt provides an almost almond-like nuttiness, the rye contributes a lively peppery spice, and the winter wheat rounds everything out with silky sweetness.
