Heritage & Distillery

Ukraine's contribution to the global vodka tradition is substantial and historically significant — the country's fertile black earth soils have produced grain of exceptional quality for centuries, and Ukrainian distilling traditions are as ancient as those of Poland and Russia. Staritsky Levitsky honours that heritage with a handmade vodka of genuine luxury — a spirit produced in very small batches, rested for sixty days before bottling, and presented with the care and attention that the finest spirits demand. The private cellar designation signals the producer's most refined expression, and the liquid justifies the claim.

Production

Ukrainian wheat is distilled five times and then subjected to an unusually rigorous filtration process using birch charcoal and quartz crystal — the latter contributing a subtle mineral quality to the finished spirit. The most distinctive aspect of the production process is the sixty-day resting period that follows filtration, during which the spirit is allowed to marry and integrate before bottling. This resting period — unusual in vodka production — contributes to the exceptional smoothness and integration of flavour that distinguish this expression from more hurried competitors.

Tasting Notes

The nose is creamy and refined — soft wheat, vanilla custard, white flowers, and a subtle honeyed sweetness create an aromatic profile of considerable elegance. On the palate, the vodka is exceptionally smooth and velvety, with rich cream, gentle honey, white pepper, and a silky mouthfeel that testifies to the sixty-day resting period. The integration of flavour is remarkable — every element is in harmony, nothing dominates, and the overall impression is one of serene luxury. The finish is long, warm and creamy, with vanilla, gentle spice, and a supremely elegant fade.

The Serve

A vodka of this quality and refinement deserves to be served neat and slightly chilled — from a small crystal glass, allowing the aromatics to develop fully. It also makes an extraordinary Vodka Martini, the rested smoothness creating a cocktail of remarkable elegance.

Verdict

Staritsky Levitsky Private Cellar is one of the finest wheat vodkas this publication has reviewed — a spirit that demonstrates what patience, skill, and exceptional raw materials can achieve. The price is premium but justified, and the quality stands comparison with any vodka at any price point. Highly recommended for the serious vodka enthusiast.
