Tasting Notes

Nose

Liquorice root and anise with piney juniper — light coriander, orris root, lime juice and peppery tingle, pungently aromatic, the grape base adding silky aromatics

Palate

Viscous silky delivery — citrus sorbet, juniper and dried herbal notes seamlessly integrated, creamy and spicy, sweet citrus expanding into floral and bramble accents, the grape spirit providing a mouthfeel that grain cannot match

Finish

Creamy and spicy — star anise and clove warmth, cinnamon emerging, juniper persisting, the grape base carrying the botanicals with remarkable smoothness, long and composed

Expert Review

7/10

Named after 78 degrees — the angle at which ethanol evaporates, the fundamental principle of distillation. Launched in 2015 from Adelaide Hills Distillery in Hay Valley, made from a grape spirit base with 12 botanicals vapour-infused for purity. Pungently aromatic with resinous, citrus and floral notes. Silky mouthfeel from the grape base. Gold at World Gin Awards. Small batch Australian craft with a scientific name and an artistic soul.
