Tasting Notes

Nose

Juniper-heavy with oats and vanilla bringing a milky, buttery sweetness — lifted by cardamom, orange zinging with fresh lively fruit, unusual and immediately distinctive

Palate

Milky sweetness coming through with vanilla icing-sugar dusting — cardamom stepping in with a curried warmth, almonds adding nutty depth, coriander and cinnamon spice, deliberately light on citrus, the oats providing a creamy mouthfeel unlike any other gin

Finish

Big peppery kick from black pepper — lingering and warming, the vanilla sweetness counterbalanced by spice, oaty creaminess persisting, a finish that demands attention

Expert Review

7/10

Named after the three rivers that converge in Manchester — the Irwell, Medlock and Irk. Master Distiller Dave Rigby wanted something light on citrus with a creamy mouthfeel, so he added oats and vanilla to a base of eleven botanicals, distilled in a 450-litre Holstein copper pot still called Angel. Juniper-heavy nose, milky vanilla mid-palate with cardamom warmth, big peppery kick on the finish. A gin that tastes of Northern England's industrial soul.
