Tasting Notes

Nose

Intense coconut and citrus — grapefruit overtones giving way to ginger and juniper in the tail

Palate

Rich creamy coconut balanced by zesty grapefruit and warm spice — bitter and astringent grapefruit with ginger and pine, partially smoothed by vanilla character

Finish

Bright tropical with refreshing citrus — a touch of sweetness lingering, more tropical cocktail than traditional gin

First Impressions

Hoxton Gin was one of the first gins to push the boundaries of what gin could taste like — coconut and grapefruit alongside ginger, tarragon and orris. It divided the gin world: some loved the tropical character, others questioned whether it was really gin.

Tasting

The nose is intense with coconut and citrus, grapefruit overtones with ginger and juniper. On the palate, rich creamy coconut with zesty grapefruit and warm spice, bitter grapefruit-ginger-pine partially smoothed by vanilla. The finish is bright and tropical.

The Bottom Line

Hoxton earns a 6 for boldness if not for balance. The coconut-grapefruit combination is genuinely distinctive but the juniper often takes a back seat. Best enjoyed neat to savour the layers, or as a splash in a tropical cocktail. A conversation-starter rather than a purist's choice.
