Tasting Notes

Nose

Effervescent lemon sherbet and bittersweet orange — piney juniper and peppery spice with woody citrus touches

Palate

Complex citrus that is not overwhelming — juniper and peppery spice very much present, bitter orange and zesty grapefruit lifted by sherbet notes and grounded by woody musky peppers

Finish

Woody citrus and juniper persisting — the rare fruits adding depth rather than sweetness

First Impressions

Silent Pool Rare Citrus features four distinctive and unusual citrus fruits: Buddha's hand (a fragrant, segmented citrus), Seville orange, natsudaidai (a Japanese orange-pomelo hybrid) and hirado buntan (a type of pomelo). This is not a flavoured gin but an exquisitely blended juniper-forward spirit with complex citrus character.

Tasting

The nose delivers effervescent lemon sherbet and bittersweet orange with piney juniper, peppery spice and woody citrus. On the palate, complex citrus that never overwhelms — juniper and peppery spice remain very present, with bitter orange and zesty grapefruit lifted by sherbet notes and grounded by woody, musky peppers. The finish carries woody citrus and juniper persisting.

The Bottom Line

Silent Pool Rare Citrus earns an 8 for achieving citrus complexity through rare ingredients rather than heavy-handed flavouring. The Buddha's hand and Japanese citrus varieties bring characters that conventional oranges and lemons cannot, and the gin remains proudly juniper-forward throughout. Try it in a Negroni at 2:1:1 ratios to let the citrus shine.
