Tasting Notes

Nose

Rich aromas of dried fruit and toasted oak greet the nose, with undertones of vanilla fudge and gentle baking spice.

Palate

The palate delivers rich caramel, toasted almond and a beautiful balance of sweetness and oak tannin. A creamy mouthfeel carries notes of ripe banana and cinnamon through to a satisfying crescendo.

Finish

A long, warming finish with lingering toffee, oak spice and a final flourish of dried tropical fruit.

Arecha Extra Rum / Arechabala / Bot.1960s arrives from Arechabala with considerable pedigree behind it. Produced at Arechabala Distillery in Cuba, this is a aged rum that speaks volumes about the quality of Caribbean and world rum production. At 40% ABV, it sits comfortably in the sweet spot for contemplative sipping, though it also brings enough character to elevate premium cocktails.

Production follows traditional methods that have been refined over generations. Arechabala Distillery brings considerable expertise to the process, and the quality of the base spirit is evident from the first sip. The period spent in oak has added layers of complexity without overwhelming the inherent character of the rum.

On tasting, this rum reveals itself gradually, rewarding patience with increasing complexity. The balance between sweetness and structure is particularly well-judged, and there is a depth here that invites repeated visits to the glass. We found it most enjoyable neat or with a single cube of ice, though it would also make a rather exceptional Old Fashioned variation.

In a market increasingly crowded with premium offerings, Arecha Extra Rum / Arechabala / Bot.1960s stands out as something genuinely special. This is a rum that deserves a place in any serious collection, and one that we suspect will become increasingly difficult to find as word spreads. An exceptional spirit from an exceptional producer.
