Clément VSOP is an outstanding introduction to the world of rhum agricole — that distinctive French Caribbean style distilled from fresh sugarcane juice rather than molasses. The difference is fundamental: where molasses-based rums tend towards sweetness, caramel, and dried fruit, agricole rums express the living plant — grassy, herbaceous, and vibrant with the terroir of the cane fields.

Produced at Habitation Clément in Martinique — an estate that dates back to the 18th century — the VSOP is aged for a minimum of four years in a combination of re-charred bourbon and new French oak barrels. The result is a spirit that bridges the grassy freshness of unaged agricole with the vanilla and spice influence of oak maturation.

On the nose, expect fresh-cut sugarcane, grassy herbs, vanilla, dried tropical fruit, toasted oak, and orange peel. The palate is herbaceous and elegant with fresh cane juice character, vanilla, baking spice, dried mango, and subtle oak tannins. The finish is medium-long with vegetal character, vanilla, and grassy freshness.

The classic Ti Punch is the essential serve — a measure of agricole, a disc of fresh lime, and a touch of cane syrup. No ice, no fuss. For a longer drink, try it in an agricole Daiquiri.
