Nose
Spice and citrus with black pepper prominent — lemongrass herbaceous quality, the original Sapphire botanicals present underneath, more assertive and complex than the original
Palate
Black pepper almost the primary flavour — complementing mellow juniper backbone, lemongrass combining with citrus and herbal content, spicy and earthy, the two new botanicals transforming the familiar Sapphire profile into something more adventurous
Finish
Peppery and herbal — black pepper reducing sweetness and playing up bitter notes, lemongrass fading, juniper and coriander reasserting, warming and long, the East clearly present
Expert Review
7/10Launched in 2011 as Bombay Sapphire's first new expression, adding Thai lemongrass and Vietnamese black peppercorn to the classic ten-botanical Sapphire recipe. All twelve botanicals vapour-infused through the signature Carterhead still at Laverstoke Mill. The pepper becomes almost the primary flavour neat, complementing the mellow juniper backbone. Lemongrass takes the edge off the other ingredients. A more assertive, spice-forward Sapphire for those who find the original too smooth.
