Tasting Notes

Nose

Rich dark fruits — prune, fig, raisin, plum — polished oak, honey-drizzled nuts, toffee, baking spice — the sherry depth is immediate

Palate

Dense sherried richness lifted by coastal saltiness — roast chestnuts, gentle wood spice, a distinctive maritime 'distillery funk,' oily full-bodied mouthfeel

Finish

Long and warming — mint, rosemary, basil herbaceousness giving way to sherry vinegar, sea salt, lingering sweetness — one of Islay's finest finishes

Expert Review

8.5/10

The outlier on Islay — largely unpeated, drawing soft water from the Margadale spring. Founded 1881, 'Bunnahabhain' means 'mouth of the river' in Gaelic. The maritime character comes not from peat but from 18 years ageing in coastal warehouses on the Sound of Islay. First-fill Oloroso sherry casks, 46.3%, non-chill filtered, natural colour. Whiskybase 88/100.
